The Physics (Teacher Education) major was established in 1958 and is currently recognized as a Hubei Provincial Featured Undergraduate Program, a National Featured Major, and a National First-Class Undergraduate Major Development Program. Over more than six decades, the program has cultivated a large number of outstanding professionals for China, particularly for Hubei Province, including physics educators and researchers at universities and secondary schools, as well as talented professionals working in a wide range of other fields.
The program is committed to cultivating qualified and high-caliber secondary school physics teachers with sound political and ethical qualities, a strong humanistic background, and scientific literacy. Students receive a well-rounded education encompassing moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labor education, while acquiring a solid understanding of the fundamental theories and methods of physics, sound mathematical foundations, and strong experimental skills. The program emphasizes the development of innovative and practical capabilities, professional adaptability, teamwork, a broad international perspective, a strong sense of innovation, and social responsibility. Graduates are well prepared to undertake physics teaching and educational work in secondary schools.
